Skin Cycling
What is skin-cycling? You’ve probably heard this term used by celebrities and skin care gurus. Essentially, skin cycling is a skin-care routine that allows for a break period during the week, so that your skin can repair itself after using certain products. Experts and influencers alike have said it can help prevent irritation and inflammation, plus it saves product usage and therefore cost, without compromising results.
The great thing about skin cycling is you may already be doing it daily without even realizing it! It creates a routine that allows you to designate a night to a different active ingredient such as exfoliants or retinols, followed by a recovery period for the next two days. On these next two recovery days you want to focus more on hydrating and nourishing your skin.
The idea of rest days between using these active ingredients is key to how beneficial skin cycling can be, especially for some new to skincare. While using acids (salicylic and glycolic) and retinoids (Retinal, Retinol, Tretinoin) have amazing exfoliating and anti-aging benefits, they can also cause the skin to be reactive due to the nature of how powerful they are. If you space out your daily use, you are less likely to have any harsh reactions.
This method is fabulous and can really help build a consistent skincare routine. It is all about trial and error and seeing how YOUR skin reacts in the shift between active and inactive ingredients. What kind of products you use is highly based on what your skin type is! It definitely requires playing around with until you learn what works best for you.
At Azani Medical Spa, our team of Medical Aestheticians, can perfectly craft a skincare regimen that includes skin cycling. We will analyze your skin type and work with you to decide on the best products. All our skincare products are medical grade and have shown effective clinical results.
